What is the downtime like after gynecomastia surgery?
Many patients ask how to get rid of man breasts in a week as they are keen to get instant results after many years of struggling with gynecomastia. Gyno surgery can transform the appearance of your chest but there will be some downtime.
Here’s the Masculum Clinic guide to your recovery process after male breast reduction surgery.
Immediately After Gynecomastia Surgery
After your gyno surgery, you will be able to return home on the same day. Initially, there will be a certain amount of bruising and swelling caused by the surgery. You will be provided with over-the-counter painkillers to manage any pain in the first week. After a couple of days, you’ll be able to resume everyday, normal activities.
The bruising and swelling will take a few weeks to heal, and we recommend a special surgical compression garment to be worn during this time for the best possible recovery. We also recommend that you undertake three to four Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) massage therapy treatments from day 1-2 post surgery. This will help to reduce the swelling and speed up your recovery.
Strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided for two to three weeks. After this, it can be steadily built back up. You can expect to regain your full range of normal activities six weeks post surgery.
Two Weeks After – Your Post-Op Check
A couple of weeks following your procedure, an appointment will be arranged for you to have your dressings removed. The stitches used in gynecomastia surgery are dissolvable, so these do not need to be removed.
There will be another review at the six-week point, and then again at three months after surgery. Mr Maisam Fazel’s team at Masculum will always be on hand to answer any questions in the time between appointments and they can quickly arrange further appointments if required.
Although you will be able to see the results of your gyno surgery immediately, the swelling will take some weeks to fully subside. Therefore, the best point to fully assess your results is at the three month point. However, it may take even longer – possibly up to a year before the final results are revealed.
Following your surgeon’s advice is the best way to get the results you desire. How you look after yourself after the surgery will have a direct impact on the results.
