Penoplasty

why choose a penoplasty?

Men are increasingly under pressure to look their best all the time and in all situations. Increasingly, they are turning to cosmetic surgery to enhance their looks or correct a feature that is making them unhappy and penis enlargement surgery is becoming a very popular and highly effective way to boost their self-esteem.

This is a surgical procedure that can be used to increase the length and the girth (circumference) of the penis. The procedure is actually made up of two separate aspects which are usually done in the same operation.

PENOPLASTY FAQS

IS IT POSSIBLE TO INCREASE THE LENGTH OF THE PENIS?

This involves making a ‘Mercedes-Benz’ like triangular incision in the pubic area. This allows the surgeon to then identify the suspensory ligament and to detach it from its attachment to the pubic bone (ligamentolysis). As a result of this, the penis length is increased in the flaccid (relaxed) state by between 2 – 4cm. The operation does not increase the length of the penis in the erect state.

HOW IS PENIS GIRTH INCREASED?

This is a fat transfer procedure. Fat transfer is used widely in many aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. In relation to the penis, the surgeon obtains some fat through liposuction (typically from the abdomen, flanks or thighs). The fat is then purified before being injected around the shaft of the penis. Studies show that the average increase in size of girth is between 20-30%. This procedure can be repeated if further girth enhancement is desired.

DOES A PENOPLASTY OPERATION REQUIRE A GENERAL ANAESTHETIC?

The whole penoplasty procedure (length and girth) can be done under sedation and only takes bout 45 minutes to perform. The procedure is usually performed as a day case with patients able to go home after a couple of hours.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE AFTER A PENOPLASTY?

All patients are given simple painkillers and antibiotics to take home as well as medication to reduce the risk of developing an erection for the first six weeks. Most patients are completely pain free after a few days and can drive after three to four days. It is advisable to avoid strenuous activity and contact sports for six weeks post surgery.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF A PENOPLASTY?

Although this procedure is safe, it is important to remember that all surgical procedures carry risks. During your consultation, we will explain these to you fully and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

NON-SURGICAL ENHANCEMENT OF THE GLANS

In this outpatient technique, hyaluronic acid is injected into the glans (head) of the penis, increasing its overall volume. Apart from the cosmetic benefit, there is some evidence that this can also help patients suffering from premature ejaculation.
